Garden

Speaking with Br Kennedy: The children are busy putting in a garden. This garden will have to be irrigated and the water carried several km. Here is a picture of Joseph Curia tending the plants. We applaud the St Charles Lwanga students and staff for the courage to plant and care for a garden which will be so labor intensive.
Talks on a well are progressing. Digging a well in Kenya is a very complicated process and arranging it through third parties makes it increasingly difficult and time consuming. A representative from Living Water Africa paid a visit to Br Kennedy and the school this week. Br Kennedy was happy to show him the school and tour the premises. Another Inverness County Cares member is planning a trip to Nairobi in the fall  and a good friend of the school, from Holland, will visit in August. They will be able to get more insight into the process. We also have found several reputable contacts to aid us through the process.

PIZZA PARTY IN PORT HOOD, Nova Scotia, Canada
The St. Charles Lwanga Children’s Centre in Ruai, Nairobi is a secondary school and home to approximately 150 children. These children were rescued from the Nairobi streets by Brother John Kennedy (a recent Coady Institute graduate) and are provided with a home, counseling, food, security and education. It is the place they call home, a place where they feel happy and secure and are given a chance to break the poverty cycle. Inverness County Cares continues to support the Lwanga School.

A New Roof

This building stood without a roof for more than a year. During their visit to St Charles Lwanga Ted and Hermina saw the great need for completion of this building and brought home to Inverness County Cares a request to build a roof. Within days of receiving funds for the roof, Br Kennedy had bought the necessary supplies, assembled a work crew and supervised the work till completion. It is very exciting to see this structure now functional.
